Download Scrutinize |
In principle, Scrutinize will run on any platform which supports Java and OpenGL. Suitable platforms include Windows98, NT, Linux, HP-UX, AIX, MacOS, OS/2 and others. At the present time, Scrutinize has been tested on Windows98, NT4.0 and Windows2000, with Riva TNT and NVidia GeForce graphics chipsets, running Java 1.2.2 and 1.3.0 with Java3D 1.2.2.
Downloading:If you are using Windows, you can download Scrutinize by shift-clicking on the appropriate self-extracting exe file below and saving it to your hard disk. Note that Java and Java3d are included in the installation. You do not need to have these pre-installed on your system.
Self-extracting exe for Windows | Online documentation | |
Build015 | install_scrutinize_build015_full.exe (9905KB) | index.html |
Build014 | install_scrutinize_build014_full.exe (8216KB) | index.html |
Build013 | install_scrutinize_build013_full.exe (8418KB) | index.html |
Once you have downloaded the appropriate self-extracting exe file, double-click on it to extract its contents to a location of your choice. The default location is C:\Scrutinize. After you have extracted the contents you will see a jar file (scrutinize.jar), a shortcut (Scrutinize) and various other files in your chosen location. Double-clicking on the shortcut will start Scrutinize. Note that if you extracted the files to a non-default location, you must first edit the properties of the shortcut to refer to your chosen location.
Example Files:If all has gone well, you should now be looking at Scrutinize, and you will be ready to load the example files, using the menu commands File--Load or File--Replay.
Try loading teapot.pbk, zooming, panning, and changing its rgb property.
Try replaying demo1.pbk.
Try starting up two instances of Scrutinize, and then selecting File--Connect in one of them. Then the two instances will be coupled, and everything you do in one will be mirrored in the other. By default, File--Connect connects to a second instance of Scrutinize running on the local machine. If you install Scrutinize on more than one machine on your network, then you can couple Scrutinize instances across the network, by supplying the IP address of the remote machine to the File--Connect dialog. There is no upper limit to the number of Scrutinize instances which can be coupled together.
